Fayette County Lake was constructed by the LCRA and the City of Austin a 2,400-acre cooling pond for the Fayette Power Project. Water that is discharged into the lake creates a warm-water lake that can be fished year-around.

When the gates swung open at Fayette County Lake on September 5, 1979, some 120 boatloads of anglers were waiting in line to sample what, at the time, was thought to be the hottest ticket on the Texas bass-fishing scene.

The Texas Parks and Wildlife Department biologists checked 573 bass weighing 2,042 pounds on opening day. The average fish weighed 3.56 pounds. This was the beginning of what was to become one of the showcase lakes in Texas for future management of largemouth bass on heavily-fished lakes.

The city of La Grange was made famous years ago by Dolly Parton and Bert Reynolds when they recaptured the history and demise of the once famous "Chicken Ranch"! Fayette County Lake has managed to survive for 25 years and well over 800,000 fishermen later by the sheer determination of the fishermen and the lake management team to preserve the lake and the opportunity to catch trophy-sized black bass. Most bass fishermen on the lake practice "catch and release"! There is a very strictly enforced Slot Limit on the lake to ensure the continued availability of the good healthy fish in the 3 - 6 lb size.


	There are two parks on the lake for access to the lake both by boat or just for camping or other recreational activities. Park Prairie and Oak Thicket parks are located on the North end of Lake Fayette and have undergone extensive renovations with the assistance of a grant from the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department and have outstanding amenities.

PARK PRAIRIE PARK
The 14-acre Park Prairie Park is the smaller of the two parks at the lake. Park Prairie Park offers spacious paved parking for all visitors. Potable water is available as are restrooms that are also wheelchair accessible. Boats can be launched from the boat ramp to enjoy a day of fishing or water skiing. Primitive camping is also available.

New facilities include a large fishing pier, courtesy boat docks and a designated swim area protected from boat traffic. There are plenty of picnic areas to just rest and relax and a Pavilion that can be rented for family gatherings or group parties. Fees are listed below. OAK THICKET PARK
With it's 85 acres, Oak Thicket is the largest and most developed park at Fayette County Lake.
Twenty new paved camp sites for recreational vehicles have been built with water connections and 30-amp hookups. Five of the sites are wired for 50 amps. Other amenities include security lighting, potable water, and two centrally located restrooms accessible to the disabled. The restroom for the multi-use campsite has shower facilities. A dump station is provided for the convenience of overnight visitors.

Large groups are accommodated by a lighted pavilion and a playground. A sandy beach is located in the day-use area. Visitors can either launch boats from the boat ramp or take advantage of Lake Fayette's spectacular fishing from the fishing pier. Guest can hike the multi-use trail to Park Prairie Park to watch birds or wildlife.

Other facilities include the new "Texas Traditional Cabins" with cedar exterior and decorative traditional cedar built interior furniture. There are accommodations for every need from a large "Bunkhouse" that will sleep 14 with full kitchen and bath to screened shelters for those wanting to have a comfortable camping experience. FEES for these facilities are below.
