I make it a very high priority to keep up with the fish patterns and the best times and places to catch fish. I make every effort to ensure that my customers catch good solid fish and pick up some new fishing tips
and techniques.
We have learned that it is always good to get an early start in order to catch fish that are feeding in the shallow water prior to sun up. The water on Fayette County Lake is very clear and thus once the sun gets up
above the horizon, the fish are not able to stay in the shallows unless there is vegetation or other cover. Early is a great time to throw a variety of crank baits that change with the time of the year.
We
have lost some of our cover for one reason or another and this has caused the very experienced Fayette County fishermen to change a lot of their fishing techniques. We are now taking a lot of the fishermen out and
demonstrating constantly changing fishing techniques.
Spring & Summer
in Texas tend to be very windy and is another good reason to get an early start. There are many protected areas on the lake that provide good cover on a windy day.
Fayette County Lake, in my opinion, is
still one of best lakes in Texas and offers an angler the opportunity to catch a good number of quality fish on a single outing. Seasonal patterns require different fishing techniques and baits.
January - April are generally our staging and spawning periods as Fayette County Lake is a warm water Power Plant Lake thus making the winter months some of the best fishing.
May - July is when we can usually catch Big Bass in the 6 to 8 pound class. August and September
is normally the best months to get into the schooling bass activity. Fayette County Lake schooling bass are good solid bass ranging from 2 5 pounds. October - December
offers great top water and worm fishing in the grass bed's.
Fayette has a FIVE BASS LIMIT under a slot of 14 inches to 24 inches.
Fish between 14" and 24" must be released and only ONE BASS over 24" inches may be kept.
